This day trip begins east of Marrakech in the foothills of the High Atlas and leads you to the Ouzoud Waterfalls. Our first stop is usually Demnate, a lively Berber town. If you happen to visit on a Sunday, you’ll witness the buzz of the rural market, a fascinating experience.

A few kilometers from Demnate is Imi n’Ifri, a natural bridge shaped like an arch located in the M’goun Geopark. Its Berber name means “the mouth of the cave.” A stairway trail will take you to the riverbed and the “mouth” beneath the bridge. Make sure to wear shoes with good grip as the ground can be slippery. Next, we continue our journey to the Berber town of Azilal (market day is Thursday). From there, we take a scenic and less-traveled route through the Western High Atlas National Park to Ouzoud.

Upon arrival in Ouzoud, we’ll meet our local guide and set out to explore the waterfall area. The best way to admire the 110-meter falls is to follow the trail through the olive groves on the west side to the El Abid River. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to take photos, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a beautiful rainbow.

You’ll also have free time to relax at the base of the falls. On the east side, stairs lead to an area with many stalls and cafes for tourists. Near the top of the falls, you may encounter a lively troupe of Barbary macaques, always present and mischievous, who will usually be willing to pose for photos in exchange for a few peanuts! There are many lunch options at the falls; feel free to ask your driver for recommendations.
